In the hustle and bustle of modern life, the idea of taking time "off" to relax might feel inappropriate; like a waist of time and ressources and should hence be a rare luxury reserved for spa days or weekends away.


But here’s the truth: relaxation isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity.


Relaxation is a necessity to maintain mental, emotional and physicall well-being long term.


In todays world, overdrive is our "new normal" and most people find it challenging to unwind and relax. However, when we don’t make space to relax, our bodies and minds remain in a state of overdrive which might lead to serious issues over time.


Our bodies are simply not made to maintain this state of being for longer periods.

The Science of Stress

You might or might not yet know, that when you’re under stress, your body activates the fight-or-flight response, releasing cortisol and adrenaline.


While helpful in short bursts, chronic stress can lead to physical issues like headaches, fatigue, burnout, anxiety, and even physical illness, not to mention the impact it can have on our overall mental well-being.


Regular relaxation practices can be of significant help to lower cortisol levels and balance our well-being, giving your mind and body the reset they deserve.


Or in other words: we all need relaxation to function at our best.


Why Relaxation Matters

Relaxation doesn’t just feel good; it does good.


When we engage in relaxation practices, we activate the parasympathetic nervous system- which is the body’s way of slowing down and repairing itself.


Studies have shown that regular relaxation practices can:

  • Improve focus

  • Enhance memory

  • Boost creativity

  • Strengthen our immune system


Yet many of us struggle to prioritize relaxation.


We push through endless to-do lists, convincing ourselves that we’ll relax “later.”


But when later comes, we’re too drained to enjoy it. Or even worse: we decide to cancel relaxation entirely to not "waist" precious time...


I am sure you understand by now, that this is a broken strategy. Leaving you in an endless hamster wheel of constant stress and taking a serious toll on your well-being.


Practical Ways to Build Relaxation Into Your Day

The good news? Relaxation doesn’t require hours of free time. Here are a few simple practices you can start right now:

  2. Body Movement – Ideally outdoor (hint: being in the forrest adds another level in terms of impact)

  3. Mindfullness – Whether it’s a morning stretch or evening tea, small moments of peace add up
