- and how to fix it!

Be honest - how’s your New Year’s resolution going?
If you’re crushing it, congratulations.
But if you’ve already started slipping (or abandoned it completely), you’re not alone!
Studies show that 80% of people give up on their resolutions by February.
Meanwhile, my cat?
He has successfully stuck to his one and only resolution: play hard, rest even harder 😹
Now, I’m not saying you should adopt my cat’s lifestyle (though I admit, a stress-free life does sound tempting).
But there’s something we can actually learn from him:
My cat doesn’t rely on willpower.
And that’s exactly why most resolutions fail: if you are using sheer discipline to push through, instead of working with your mind, you set yourself up for failure.
The Real Reason Resolutions Fail
Most people think failing to follow through on a goal means they lack motivation or discipline. But here’s the truth:
Your subconscious mind is running the show.
You might want to go to the gym, eat healthier, or finally start that project… but if your subconscious mind associates these changes with discomfort, overwhelm, or fear of failure, it will subtly sabotage you.
It’s why you keep hitting snooze instead of waking up early to exercise. Why you tell yourself “just one bite” of cake turns into the whole slice. Why that new habit feels like a battle you just can’t win.
Your subconscious mind is designed to keep you safe - and unfortunately, change feels unsafe for the most part.
So, instead of trying to force your way through resistance, the secret is to reprogram your mind so your goals feel natural and effortless.
How to Finally Make Your Goals Stick
If you’re tired of the cycle of setting resolutions and watching them fade away, here’s how you can break free:
1️⃣ Align Your Goals with Your Identity
Instead of just focusing on what you want to do, shift your mindset to who you want to become.
For example:
❌ “I want to exercise more” → ✅ “I am a person who prioritizes my health”
❌ “I should eat healthier” → ✅ “I am someone who nourishes my body with good food”
Your subconscious responds better when you reinforce a new identity, rather than just trying to change behaviors.
2️⃣ Stop Relying on Willpower
Willpower is like a battery - it drains throughout the day. Instead of fighting against yourself, set up your environment for success.
💡 Want to read more? → Leave your book on your nightstand
💡 Want to eat healthier? → Prep meals in advance
💡 Want to work out? → Lay out your gym clothes the night before
When the path of least resistance leads you toward your goal instead of away from it, following through becomes automatic.
3️⃣ Work with Your Subconscious Mind
The most powerful way to make change stick?
Visualization and hypnosis.
When you repeatedly imagine yourself succeeding, your brain starts believing it’s already real - making it way easier to take action.
And that’s exactly what I’m inviting you to experience in my FREE Lunch Learning Session on February 28th at 12:15 CET.
